ORQUESTRA BRASIL JAZZ SINFÔNICA

DECEMBER 03 to 05, 2021

LIVESTREAM VIA MULTISHOW AND YOUTUBE

In 2021, we reached the eighth edition of the festival and, due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, we presented a completely online version, recorded at Tom Brasil, in São Paulo, with a great novelty: Brazilian artists paying tribute and interpreting great international hits.

Andreas Kisser, guitarist for the iconic band Sepultura, paid tribute to Deep Purple, delving into the heavy rock universe of this band that pioneered heavy metal and modern hard rock. Di Ferrero felt right at home on the Samsung Best of Blues stage, performing classics by Foo Fighters.

Vitor Kley, from Rio Grande do Sul, who chose to pay tribute to the group Oasis, said he was “freaked out” by the idea of playing with the Orquestra Brasil Jazz Sinfônica for the first time.

Young Cacá Magalhães, just 15 years old, grew up listening to Aretha Franklin, and paid tribute to her in this edition of Samsung Best of Blues and Rock.

The band Francisco, el Hombre, led by brothers Sebastian and Mateo, paid tribute to Carlos Santana.

Maestro Ruriá Duprat, who has been leading the Orquestra Brasil Jazz Sinfônica for a year, conducted the orchestra with 24 musicians in interpretations of songs by the legendary English band Queen.

In addition to YouTube, the shows were broadcast on the Multishow TV channel: on December 18th shows by Cacá Magalhães, Di Ferrero and Andreas Kisser, and on December 19th, Vitor Kley, Orquestra Brasil Jazz Sinfônica and Francisco, el Hombre.

THE BRANDS AT THE 8th EDITION OF THE FESTIVAL

ANDREAS KISSER

The leader of the most famous Brazilian rock band in the world, Andreas Kisser is far from being a radical metalhead. Eclectic in his preferences, the guitarist of Sepultura often mentions blues among his favorite genres, which even include classical music.

And when referring to the world of rock, Kisser surprises fans by declaring his admiration for musicians with more progressive styles, such as Frank Zappa or David Gilmour, among heavy rock heroes, such as Ritchie Blackmore and Tony Iommi.

It was no coincidence that Kisser chose Deep Purple for his tribute at Samsung Best of Blues and Rock 2021.

A self-confessed fan of Ritchie Blackmore, he enjoyed the privilege of opening for Sepultura at a show by the heavy metal pioneers in 2003 at the Pacaembu Stadium, in São Paulo.

DI FERRERO

Invited to perform at Samsung Best of Blues and Rock 2021, Di Ferrero decided to pay tribute to one of his favorite bands: the American Foo Fighters.

Since the coronavirus pandemic still discouraged in-person concerts, the NX Zero vocalist praised the online edition of the festival. “It's really cool to see Dançar and other brands encouraging and supporting artists at this time”, he said.

Born in Campo Grande (MS), in 1985, Ferrero debuted in 1997, on the TV program Planeta Xuxa, where he danced and sang a hit by Michael Jackson.

He joined NX Zero in 2004, where he was the lead singer and composer until its dissolution in 2017 (the band announced a return to the stage in 2023). Taking his time, he began investing in a solo career in 2018.

He released singles, videos and EPs, but his first album, “Uma Bad, Uma Farra”, was only released in May 2022. At that time, he declared that he had not released an album before because he had not yet found a sound with which he fully identified.

VITOR KLEY

Known for romantic songs that gained prominence on radios and streaming platforms from 2017 onwards, the singer and composer from Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) Vitor Kley must have surprised at least some of his fans when his name was announced in the cast of Samsung Best of Blues and Rock 2021.

Especially because he made a musical tribute to Oasis, a group that put British rock back at the top of the charts in the 1990s.

Having the company of the renowned Orquestra Brasil Jazz Sinfônica's instrumentalists was the realization of a long-held dream for Kley. “When the invitation came, I accepted it straight away without thinking”, he celebrated.

Vitor released his debut album, “Eclipse Solar”, at the age of 14, with the support of singer Armandinho, his musical godfather. Released in 2017, the hit “O Sol” made him known throughout Brazil.

Partnerships with Samuel Rosa, Lulu Santos and the duo Anavitória contributed to increasing his popularity. In 2021, Kley inaugurated a more rock-oriented phase with the track “O Amor Machuca Demais”, whose video featured appearances by Di Ferrero and Lucas Silveira (Fresno).

CACÁ MAGALHÃES

It was 2019 when she caught everyone's attention in a video that went viral on the internet: at just 13 years old, singer Cacá Magalhães, from Salvador, Bahia (Brazil), surprised social media with the power of her voice. The girl's musical preferences were also unusual, mixing blues, rock and soul music.

Interestingly, Cacá did not inherit her talent from her parents, a businessman and a lawyer. This talent was noticed by the American musician Lon Bové, who leads the Banda Terráquea, which specializes in R&B. It was he who invited Cacá to rehearse with the group.

In 2021, she signed a contract with the record label Sony, and the first single came out months later: a version of “Blues da Piedade”, a hit by Cazuza. In the new recording, a special guest: Roberto Frejat, Cazuza's partner in the song.

Few singers would accept the challenge suggested to Cacá by Best of Blues and Rock: to interpret songs from the repertoire of the sensational Aretha Franklin. “She is a diva, an artist who has always inspired me”, celebrated the young singer.

FRANCISCO, EL HOMBRE

Close to starting the immersion to record their third album, the band Francisco, el Hombre, led by brothers Sebastian and Mateo, made space in their schedule to pay tribute to Carlos Santana, playing for the first time with an orchestra, at Samsung Best of Blues and Rock 2021. “I imagine a river of sounds for us to immerse ourselves in the new experience”, exalted Mateo Piracés-Ugarte.

Francisco, el Hombre is a Brazilian band formed in 2013 by Mexican brothers naturalized Brazilians Sebastián and Mateo Piracés-Ugarte.

The band was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2017 for best song in Portuguese for the song "Triste, Louca ou Má".

With three other Brazilian-born members, the quintet mixes musical elements from both countries and others from Latin America, based on the brothers' experience traveling around the continent, resulting in music sung in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

ORQUESTRA BRASIL
JAZZ SINFÔNICA

Thanks to its eclectic profile, it didn't come as a surprise that Samsung Best of Blues and Rock 2021 invited the Orquestra Brasil Jazz Sinfônica to perform orchestral arrangements of hits by the English band Queen, conducted by maestro Ruriá Duprat.

Created in 1989, the Orquestra Brasil Jazz Sinfônica was born from the concern of musicians and researchers of Brazilian music to rescue and keep alive the tradition of radio and TV station orchestras.

Pianist Arrigo Barnabé and guitarist Eduardo Gudin, both composers, shaped this project and presented it to writer Fernando Morais, at the time Secretary of Culture for the State of São Paulo.

In its original formation, the orchestra combines instrument sections typical of a symphony orchestra (strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion) with the instrumentation characteristic of jazz big bands (saxophones, trumpets, trombones, double bass, piano and popular percussion).

Thanks to this unique format, it has been a vehicle for the performance of an eclectic repertoire, ranging from Brazilian popular songs from various eras to jazz classics or classical music.
