OS LONTRAS

JULY 8, 10, 12 and OCTOBER 21, 2016

SÃO PAULO • PORTO ALEGRE

In 2016, the festival presents a line-up with great national and international representation, and this time, the highlight among the artists is the duo “RSO – Richie Sambora + Orianthi” composed of the former guitarist of the band Bon Jovi, and the Australian singer and guitarist who has been featured in the bands of Michael Jackson and Alice Cooper, in addition to playing with names such as Carlos Santana and Prince.

Orianthi is considered “the goddess of rock” because of her obvious beauty and her high level of performance when playing the guitar. She is also one of the only women to be featured on the cover of “Guitar Player” magazine, the world’s largest publication specializing in this instrument.

Both guitarists have demonstrated great involvement with the blues and together they have been working tirelessly in a successful combination, which has already been on stages in the United States, Europe, Asia and in 2016 will arrive in Brazil.

The festival also featured a special indoor performance with Jamie Cullum, one of today's most respected contemporary jazz artists.

The singer has won a Grammy®, two Golden Globes, two GQ Man of the Year, three Brits and three Radio Sony awards, among dozens of other nominations and awards.

Also participating in the 4th edition of the festival were the Brazilians Igor Prado, the band Mustache and Apaches and Os Lontras.

RICHIE SAMBORA

American guitarist, composer and former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora brought his project “RSO - Richie Sambora + Orianthi” to the festival, in which he performs alongside Orianthi Panagaris (his girlfriend at the time), an Australian singer and guitarist who was a standout in Michael Jackson and Alice Cooper's bands, as well as playing with names such as Carlos Santana and Prince.

The external audience of the Ibirapuera Auditorium was illuminated by the talent of the guitarists, who opened the show with "When The Love Comes to Town", a classic from the partnership between BB. King and U2.

"Strange On This Town", "Every Road Leads Home to You", "Lay Your Hands On Me", "Livin' On A Prayer" were some of Sambora's hits from his time with Bon Jovi and also in his solo career that were part of the setlist.

Orianthi brought some of her own songs and surprised the audience with "Black Or White" by Michael Jackson, with whom she shared the stage on her last tour.

ORIANTHI
PANAGARIS

Born in Australia in 1985 and based in Los Angeles, Orianthi Panagaris is of Greek descent. Encouraged by her father, she began playing the piano at the age of three, switched to the guitar at the age of six and, at eleven, decided to play the guitar.

Orianthi is considered “the goddess of rock”, due to her evident beauty and the high performance she has when playing her guitar.

She was a prominent member of Michael Jackson and Alice Cooper's bands, as well as playing with artists such as Carlos Santana and Prince. She is also one of the only women to be featured on the cover of “Guitar Player” magazine, the world's largest publication specializing in this instrument.

At the festival, Orianthi and Richie Sambora presented the project “RSO - Richie Sambora + Orianthi” in a successful combination, which has already shown its potential on stages in the USA, Europe and Asia.

The two met at a jam session during New Year's Eve 2013 and quickly cemented their partnership that year. Accompanied by three other musicians, they played hits from their repertoires, covers and new songs.

JAMIE CULLUM

The English singer and pianist is one of the most respected contemporary jazz artists today. Winner of a Grammy®, two Golden Globes, two GQ Man of the Year, three Brits and three Radio Sonys, among dozens of other nominations and awards, Cullum is undoubtedly the most successful British artist working today.

He produced his first album for just 480 euros, and with his second album, “Pointless nostalgic”, he gained recognition from both the public and critics.

Jamie performed on October 21st at Tom Brasil, in São Paulo, accompanied by Brad Webb (percussion and vocals), Loz Garratt (bass), Rory Simmons (guitar and trumpet) and Tom Richards (sax and keyboards), closing in style the 2016 season of Samsung Best of Blues, which in July welcomed the guitar duo Richie Sambora and Orianthi.

IGOR PRADO

A standout on the blues scene over the last decade, guitarist and composer Igor Prado is a typical hard worker. He played in bars in São Paulo until he became famous, while also working as a concert producer.

After establishing connections with blues musicians from the United States, where he has performed at festivals, he achieved an unusual feat for a Brazilian: his album “Way Down South”, recorded with the Igor Prado Blues Band and the Delta Groove All Stars, topped the audience rankings on North American blues radio stations in 2015.

The following year, the Igor Prado Blues Band was nominated for the Blues Music Award, in the category “best album by new artists”.

In 2016 he released the album The Soul Connection in partnership with Austrian organist Raphael Wressnig, inspired by the soul of the 1960s and 1970s.

MUSTACHE

Lontras, a band made up of members of the bands Mombojó and Del Rey, opened the stage at Samsung Best of Blues 2016 in the external audience of the Ibirapuera Auditorium, with international and national hits in a dance format.

The band, composed of Chiquinho, Marcelo Machado and Vicente Machado, presented a show, which began in the late sunny afternoon, with their original songs and instrumental covers, in a very particular way, allowing the audience to travel through the melodies and duets between keyboard and guitar.
